Although it’s not the most glamorous solution, bone broth is the perfect antiaging food. Bone broth is rich gelatin which boosts collagen production. More collagen = firmer skin and less chance of wrinkles. Collagen not only keeps your skin elastic, supple and plump, it also helps to prevent scarring and improves skin appearance. As well as keeping your skin looking youthful, boosting collagen production in the body helps to keep your bones strong and prevents scarring, varicose veins and tissue weakness that could lead to prolapse.
Making a bone broth is easy. Use organic ingredients if possible, especially if using chicken.
- Put beef or chicken bones in a pot with water and celery, carrot, onion or any other veggies.
- Bring to the boil then simmer for 2-3 hours to extract the gelatin from the bones. Drain and drink warm.
- Keep in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze for future use.
This works best with cracked chicken bones or beef bone pieces where you can see the marrow, as it helps to get at the gelatin and other nutrients. For supple skin drink 1-2 cups per day.
